This blog, The Generous City, is designed as a gathering place for the community of the generous. Consider this an invitation to engage in a wide range of conversations about generosity.
Sometimes attention to an issue is necessary in order to prod it along. In this case, though, we are simply joining a generosity awakening already in process. It could even be called a movement of global reach and significance.
Something can be labeled “movement” when it seems to materialize in random places, through random ways, with random causes.
Generosity is happening individually, corporately, and through non-profit initiatives. It is a stirring, enabled by the Internet, which allows causes to be platformed—and resources to be matched—in ways never before possible.
Movements are impossible to control. But they can be encouraged.
Therefore, these are the goals of The Generous City: To explain, to showcase, to applaud, to connect, to interact, to explain—regarding generosity—in all its ways and glories.
Generous is the person who brings a wheelchair to someone who can’t get around, and the mother who gets up at 2:00am to nurse her child. And the firefighter who runs into the blaze. And the organization that facilitates adoption of children with special needs. And the company that takes care of its employees.
What generosity have you witnessed? What stories have you heard? In what ways have you been impacted? How have you seen generosity defined? We hope you will come here often to be inspired by The Generous City around you!
